    Automatic ontology mapping for agent communication

    Agent communication languages such as ACL and KQML provide a standard for agent communication. These languages enable an agent to specify the intention and the content of a message as well as the protocol, the language, and the ontology that are used. For the protocol and the language some standards are available and should be known by the communicating agents. The ontology used in a communication depends on the subject of the communication. Since the number of subjects is almost infinite and since the concepts used for a subject can be described by different ontologies, the development of generally accepted standards will take a long time. This lack of standardization, which hampers communication and collaboration between agents, is known as the interoperability problem. To overcome the interoperability problem, agents must be able to establish a mapping between their ontologies. This paper investigates a new approach to the interoperability problem. The proposed approach requires neither a correspondence between concepts used in the ontologies nor a correspondence between the structure of the ontologies. It only requires that some instances of the subject about which the agents try to communicate are known by both agents.economics of technology ;

    A supermassive binary black hole with triple disks

    Hierarchical structure formation inevitably leads to the formation of supermassive binary black holes (BBHs) with a sub-parsec separation in galactic nuclei. However, to date there has been no unambiguous detection of such systems. In an effort to search for potential observational signatures of supermassive BBHs, we performed high-resolution smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations of two black holes in a binary of moderate eccentricity surrounded by a circumbinary disk. Building on our previous work, which has shown that gas can periodically transfer from the circumbinary disk to the black holes when the binary is on an eccentric orbit, the current set of simulations focuses on the formation of the individual accretion disks, their evolution and mutual interaction, and the predicted radiative signature. The variation in mass transfer with orbital phase from the circumbinary disk induces periodic variations in the light curve of the two accretion disks at ultraviolet wavelengths, but not in the optical or near-infrared. Searches for this signal offer a promising method to detect supermassive BBHs.Comment: Accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal, 16 pages, 11 figures.     Soft breaking of LμLτL_\mu-L_\tau symmetry: Light neutrino spectrum and Leptogenesis

    Continuous U(1)LμLτU(1)_{L_\mu-L_\tau} symmetry can generate quasi degenerate mass spectrum for both left handed light and right handed heavy Majorana neutrinos assuming that the symmetry preserving non zero parameters are nearly same. There is an accidental μτ\mu\tau exchange symmetry in the light and heavy neutrino Majorana mass terms. This implies θ13=0\theta_{13}=0 and θ23=π4\theta_{23}=\frac{\pi}{4}. In addition it generates another zero mixing angle and one zero mass difference. We restrict ourselves to type-I See-Saw mechanism for generation of light neutrino mass. We have found that under U(1)LμLτU(1)_{L_\mu-L_\tau} symmetry cosmological lepton asymmetry vanishes. We break U(1)LμLτU(1)_{L_\mu-L_\tau} such a way that the μτ\mu\tau exchange symmetry preserves in the neutrino sector. We have seen that light neutrino phenomenology can be explained under soft breaking of this symmetry. We have observed that softness of this symmetry breaking depends on the degeneracy of the light neutrino mass spectrum. Quasi-degeneracy of right handed neutrino mass spectrum opens an option for resonant leptogenesis. The degeneracy of the right handed neutrino mass spectrum is restricted through light neutrino data. We observed that for generation of right sized baryon asymmetry common neutrino mass scale m0m_0 have to be of the order of Δmatm2\sqrt{\Delta m^2_{\rm atm}} and corresponding right handed neutrino mass scale have to be nearly 101310^{13} GeV.     Profile of mortality of patients admitted to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in South Africa over a 5-year period (2001-2005)

    Objective: Mortality in the psychiatric population, both from natural and unnatural causes, is higher than in the general population and this is despite an improvement in the delivery of care and treatment of mental illness in recent years. The study was conducted to determine a profile of mortality and standardized mortality rates within our psychiatric hospital. Method: A retrospective clinical case audit was conducted of deaths that occurred at Weskoppies Hospital between 1st January 2001 and 31st December 2005. Direct standardised mortality rates were calculated (gender specific adjusted for age according to the South African population). Results: A total of 164 deaths were observed during this period. The gender-specific all cause mortality rates, standardised to the South African population, were 0.0177 (95% CI 0.0141, 0.0213) and 0.0163 (95% CI 0.0121, 0.0206) for males and females respectively. The all cause mortality rates for the South African male and female population were 0.0188 and 0.0170 respectively (not significantly different as it falls within the 95% confidence interval of the standardised rates). The predominant natural cause of mortality was infection. Ten of the deaths were due to unnatural causes, of these 7 were suicides. The mortality ratio for unnatural causes was 0.47. Conclusion: Mortality studies are important tools for determining quality of health care provisions to patients.     Opportunities for sustainable economic development of the coastal territories of the Baltic Sea Region in the context of digital transformation

    The article explores opportunities for the sustainable economic development of coastal territories in the Baltic Sea region (BSR) arising in blue economy sectors in the framework of digital transformation. The study argues that a more active commercialisation of territorial resources can facilitate the sustainable economic development of the BSR coastal territories, following digitally-driven innovations. The paper provides an overview of methodological approaches to territorial sustainability. It also assesses the 2009-2018 level of the socio-economic development of the BSR coastal territories, underpins the importance of the blue economy and highlights the role of digital transformation in reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the BSR through digitally-driven innovations. A comparative and problem-targeted statistics analyses show significant differences in the level and dynamics of socio-economic development in the BSR coastal territories with their GRP per capita being generally lower than the national or macroregional average. A review of literature on sustainable development in the BSR has shown that a more active use of unique resources of the coastal territories along with a technology-driven growth of blue economy sectors can counterbalance the negative impact of the territories’ uneven development on the progress towards the SDGs in the BSR. Increasing the competitiveness of the BSR coastal territories requires investment in digital solutions in the blue economy sectors and the creation of a communication infrastructure. The review of key innovations in the blue economy sectors shows that their implementation gives impetus to other industries by reducing costs, creating new jobs, and improving the quality of products and services
